The Gabriel Method - big pantsIt seems that every day, somebody is coming up with some kind of new solution to the problem of obesity.

"I was tired of hearing about new 'miracle' weight loss products and programs that focused on starving the overweight 'victim' only to discover that they gained the weight all over again when they stopped dieting. More often than not it's just too hard to keep it up! Is there no permanent solution to this condemnation?!"

One day, I was doing some unrelated research on the internet when (quite accidentally I assure you) I stumbled upon The Gabriel Method. I had no idea what it was about (I didn’t even know it had to do with weight loss until I read further).

I was getting ready to throw it into the pile of products that promised so much only to deliver the same old rehashed systems, programs and products that everyone else is trying to sell us with some new marketing edge, or a 30 minute infomercial, when some of the characteristics really caught my eye: ...no dieting? ...FAT switch? Anyway, since The Gabriel Method is an inexpensive book at Amazon I decided to buy it. After all, what did I have to lose …10 bucks?

What Makes This Book So Special?

In the book, Jon Gabriel actually explains things in a very easy to understand way. You can tell that he really seems to care whether people are successful or not in losing weight. I guess it is because he knows what it is like to be "morbidly" obese along with the mental and physical toll it can take on a person. He knows what it is like to suffer humiliation,  besides the health problems linked to obesity.

On Sept. 11th, the gift of life took on a whole new meaning for him – he was scheduled to board one of the planes that were hijacked that fatal day, but his business partner booked him on a cheaper flight. Not being in the mood to argue about it, he went on the cheaper flight. That is what spared his life.

That moment was a rude awakening for him. He suddenly felt disgusted at how he had been treating his body. At one point, he actually weighed over 400 pounds! He then started doing research and discovered the real reason so many people in the world are overweight. His discoveries led him to get rid of all his excess weight ...without dieting!

The Result

The Gabriel Method - before and afterIt only took Jon two-and-a-half years to lose 225 pounds. He went from 409 pounds to 184, without suffering, dieting, or worrying excessively about his body. Also, his skin tightened up instead of flubbing and now he looks like a person who has been thin his whole life.

 
The Key to the Gabriel Method

Like a high percentage of Americans, Jon was caught up in what he calls the Famine and Temperature, or FAT – trap. By studying biochemistry, Gabriel learned that our bodies have an internal logic that determines how fat or thin we will be at any given time and it is impossible to lose weight effectively without understanding and working with this logic. You need to make your body want to become thinner, and struggling to make yourself lose weight is counterproductive. It actually produces stress which can make you gain weight instead.
 
The Fat Switch

All of Jon Gabriel's teachings revolve around the existence of the FAT switch and what you need to do to turn it off. According to The Gabriel Method, our brains have a primitive part to them. Our primitive brain was absolutely essential to our survival from the dawning of man, but in today's modern world it may seem quite obsolete. Among other basic functions, it determines how much fat it needs to store to ensure your survival.

FAT stands for Famine And Temperature. Your primitive brain puts your body into fat storage mode when it receives the impression that you are in danger of starvation or being exposed to cold temperatures. In his book, Jon Gabriel covers the many stresses that could be triggering this fat storage mechanism inside you. As a result, it avoids you from burning your fat reserves. For some reason, your body feels that it is safer by storing fat, rather than expelling it. With the help of this book, you will discover it and you can work with your body to change it.
 
Why Diets Don't Work

Given the above information, you may already start understanding why diets are actually a great way to gain weight, instead of losing it.

The main principle of a diet is to give your body less food. The primitive brain understands this as a famine and sends out chemical signals to the body to store fat. This also activates uncontrollable hunger pangs. You will always want to eat even if you are not hungry ...even shortly after having a big meal, because you have caused your body to panic thinking there is a shortage of food. As a result, the only thing you can think about is food and how to get it. Your weight does drop at the beginning, but then you get it all back and then some.

In answer to this problem, The Gabriel Method proposes that you keep eating the same amounts for now, but that you add certain foods that contain real nutrients. This removes the stress of hunger, because it feels that it is being well fed and will be more willing to eliminate fat reserves. You will be giving your body the impression that you are in a time of plenty and it will respond accordingly. Also, your hunger pangs will die down and non nutritious foods will start to look less appetizing to you. Don't eat less, eat better!

Understand Your Body and Work With It, Not Against It

When it comes to weight loss, the Gabriel Method proposes quite a different angle from traditional/conventional weight loss systems and programs. Taking into account what we learned about our FAT switch, there are stresses that are actually good for us. Just as famine and temperature activate fat programs originally designed to keep us safe from these conditions by making us fat, the fear of being eaten actually gives the body the message that it is necessary to be thin in order to outrun predators.

In normal situations in today's world, we do not find ourselves outrunning any predators like our ancestors had to, but if we could trick our bodies into thinking we need to be able to outrun some deadly threat, they will respond by making us leaner, as it is a matter of life or death. Jon gives us easy practical exercises that we can do to achieve this, so that exercising for weight loss is turned into an almost effortless task.

The Power of Visualization

According to the book, it seems that one of the best ways to communicate with our primitive brain is through the use of images. For this reason, Jon Gabriel gives a lot of importance to visualization and along with the purchase of the Gabriel Method book, you can download a CD which is intended to help you visualize your perfect body, so your brain gets the messages in image form. The author dedicates a large section of his book to visualization and how to use it effectively; not only for weight loss, but for any aspect of your life that you wish to improve.

Why Should We Listen to Him?

Besides the fact that he was able to regain his ideal body weight after weighing over 400 lbs in just over two years (which is an enormous feat in itself!), Jon Gabriel is a biochemistry researcher who is used to doing, and has done, plenty of research for the medical profession. Especially at the end of his book, he accounts for and backs up the data in the Gabriel Method with the sources of his investigations for those experts who may still be skeptical of his conclusions. In my opinion, this makes him anything but a fly by night snake oil salesman with a new cure for obesity. He is a person who is practicing what he preaches and assures that anyone can do the same as he did to lose their excess weight with simple, easy to understand methods that anyone can follow.
